HPBridge

Building Bridges in HPB Surgery
HPBridge is a global initiative designed to foster meaningful, two-way collaboration and learning between HPB surgeons in high-income countries (HICs) and those in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Developed to address disparities in surgical education, access, and opportunity, HPBridge was launched with seed funding from the IHPBA Foundation in 2023.
At the heart of HPBridge are virtual multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings where members discuss clinical cases, research, and educational topics. These sessions prioritize active participation from LMIC partners while balancing perspectives from both LMICs and HICs. The format is designed to promote inclusivity, engagement, and mutual support in a dynamic, collaborative learning environment.
Since early 2024, HPBridge has brought together more than 500 HPB surgeons across continents—connecting colleagues, strengthening professional networks, and deepening engagement with IHPBA. Participants are encouraged to connect with national and regional chapters, contribute to global collaboration efforts, and serve as ambassadors for HPBridge in their communities.
We extend our sincere thanks to the members of the HPBridge Task Force: Dr Brendan Visser, Dr T Peter Kingham, Dr Mehan Siriwardhane, Dr Catherine Teh, Dr Alejandro Serrablo and Prof Kristoffer Lassen, for the many hours dedicated to this initiative.
